Joe W. Jones, 76, of Springfield, MA, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, June 20, 2019. He was born on Dec. 24, 1942 in Augusta, GA, to the late Pilcher and Cleo (White) Jones. Joe was a graduate of Lucy Laney High School. He had resided in Springfield, MA for the past 47 years. Prior to retiring Joe was employed with the Hampden County Corrections Department for 26 years. He was a member of the Bethlehem Church, Hampden, MA. In his leisure time Joe enjoyed playing the bass guitar & singing, was the leader of the band for Tapestry and was a DJ for many years as JoJo Thriller.
Joe is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Karen A. (Williams) Jones, his children; Alita Yates and husband Cecil of Ridgecrest, CA, Derek Jones & wife Janice of Augusta, GA, Joanne Kelly & husband Henry of Atlanta, GA, and Damon Jones of Jacksonville, FL, his four beloved grandchildren; Brandon Gilchrist, Derek Jones, Jr. Megan Jones and Philip Kelly. He is also survived by his siblings; William “Bill” Jones, Eugene Patterson, Annie Lue Patterson, Catherine Patterson. Corine (Anthony) Corley all of Florida, and other siblings, as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Besides his parents, Joe was predeceased by two sisters, Ruby Plummer and Jessie Pearl Allen-Stallworth.
His family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, June 24, 2019 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Browne Memorial Chapels, Enfield, CT. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at 10:00 am in Bethlehem Church, 123 Allen St. Hampden, MA (Please go directly to church.) Burial will follow in the Hazardville Cemetery, Enfield, CT.
