Obituary for Joseph Sloan

Joseph  Sloan
Joseph Sloan, 77, of Enfield, entered into Eternal Life to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday March 4, 2018 in the comfort of his home. He was the beloved husband of 47 years to Maryann (Furey) Sloan. Joseph was born on April 21, 1940 in Springfield, MA to the late Joe and Maryhelen (Pendergast) Sloan. He was a Enfield resident most of his life, a graduate of Cathedral H.S., Springfield, MA, he continued his education at Westfield State and AIC, receiving four Master’s Degrees in Education from both. Joe served his country proudly with the Army during Vietnam stationed in Germany and was with the Air Force Reserves for 20 years. He was employed with the State of CT for 20 years, 13 years as a security supervisor with Bradley Air Force Base and finished his 20 years at Osbourne Correctional Facility as a teacher for the GED Program retiring in 2005. He studied with the Passionist Priests for seven years and was ordained a Deacon, having served with St. Patrick Church and St. Martha Church and loved serving St. Martha Parish. Joe enjoyed hunting with his son Tom during bow season, fishing, talking politics, mornings at the Whole Donut, and driving his 94 Chevy pickup truck “Bulldog” to the town landfill.
In addition to his wife, Maryann, he is survived by his two children; Annmarie Sloan of Enfield and Thomas Sloan of Agawam, MA and a sister Peggy Sloan of Enfield.
Friends are invited to join his family during calling hours on Friday March 9, 2018 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels, Enfield. Funeral services will be held on Saturday March 10, 2018 with the funeral procession forming at 10:00 a.m. from the funeral home to St. Patrick Church for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. followed by military honors. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in St. Patrick’s King St. Cemetery, Enfield.
