Allan Frederick  O'Neil
Allan Frederick O’Neil passed away on May 28, 2014. He was born in the Thompsonville section of Enfield to Emma (Dorsett) O’Neil and Jeremiah F. O’Neil, July 27, 1922. He resided all his life in Enfield, graduating from the Enfield High School in the class of 1940. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the Army in Europe, where he was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, the Bronze Star Medal and the European Theater Medal with three battle stars. He has been a member of the American Legion Tanquay – Magill Post 80 since 1946. He was employed for 42 years with Pratt and Whitney, retiring in 1983 as a Supervisor in the Manufacturing Engineering Department. During his employment there he represented the company for several years on the Numerical Control committee of the Aeronautical Industries Association and also as the Manufacturing representative on the Manufacturing/Quality Assurance Liaison Team with Volvo Flygmotor of Trolhattan Sweden. Upon his retirement he became a Title Examiner for the law offices of his son Richard K. O’Neil, a Travel Consultant with Worldtek Travel of Hartford and a volunteer consultant with MARC, Inc. of Manchester, an agency providing residential, employment and recreational services to people with handicaps in the area. For many years he was very active in the Enfield Community Federal Credit Union, serving both on the Board of Directors and Supervisory Committee. In March 2000 he received Honor Awards from both the Enfield Community Federal Credit Union and the Connecticut Credit Union Association for a quarter century of service to the credit union movement. He enjoyed golf as a member of Suffield Country Club for 36 years. He also enjoyed traveling, sightseeing, and was an avid photographer with his camera being a constant companion, and was a private licensed pilot. He was predeceased by his wife of over 59 years, Lucille (Abraham) O’Neil. He leaves two sons, Richard K. O’Neil and wife Carol Gilmour of Feeding Hills, MA and David A. O’Neil and his friend Deborah Brennan of South Windsor, CT, five Grandchildren, Jeffrey O’Neil and his wife Dawn of Springfield, MA, Deborah (O’Neil) Ransom and husband James of New Jersey, Michael O’Neil of New Jersey, Laurie O’Neil of Stafford Springs, CT, Gregory O’Neil of Panama City Beach, FL and 12 great-grandchildren Frank Levick, IV and his wife Sarah, Christina, Matthew, Hanna, Samuel and David Ransom, Brittany and Eric O’Neil , Kyle, Brian and Ryan Elizabeth O’Neil, and Allan B. O’Neil, and a great-great grandson Frank Levick, V. Allan and his family would like to thank several people who were very good friends through the years, and especially supportive during his last illness, Walter & Laurie Prytko, Phil and Debbie Dube, Chip and Karen Lake. He was predeceased by two sisters Evelyn O’Neil and Marilyn (O’Neil) Mattrick.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday (May 31) at 11:30 a.m.at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels 43 Shaker Rd. Enfield with Rev. Kathy Faber officiating. Allan’s family will receive friends prior to the service from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. Interment with military honors will follow in the Enfield Street Cemetery.
